National Medical Commission Unveils Groundbreaking E-Book: “Professional Conduct Review”

New Delhi, October 5, 2023 – The National Medical Commission (NMC) proudly introduced its inaugural publication, an E-Book titled “Professional Conduct Review – Lessons from Case Archives” by the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB). The launch event, held at the NMC Conference Room in New Delhi, was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, Hon’ble Chairman of NMC.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by distinguished figures including Dr. Aruna Vanikar, President of UGMEB; Dr. Vijay Ojha, President of PGMEB; Dr. Vijayendra Kumar, Member of UGMEB; Dr. J.L. Meena, Member of MARB; Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi Nag, and Dr. Yogender Malik, Members of EMRB. Also present were key officials such as Shri Pankaj Aggarwal, Director (IT & Coordination); Shri Shambhu Sharan Kumar, Director (UGMEB); Shri Aujender Singh, Deputy Secretary (PGMEB); and Ms. Purima Tudu, Deputy Secretary (EMRB).

Dr. Yogender Malik, Editor of the booklet and Member of the Ethics and Medical Registration Board, highlighted the significance of the E-Book, stating, “This pivotal E-Book comprises comprehensive case studies adjudicated by seasoned professionals in their respective domains. Drawing from real-life examples, it sheds light on professional errors and their consequences, offering valuable lessons to stakeholders, particularly medical practitioners. The aim is to enhance awareness, mitigate professional errors, and safeguard patients from potential ethical lapses.”

As an appellate body, EMRB, under NMC, has been diligently hearing cases of misconduct and passing judgments. The necessity to share insights from complaint cases against Doctors (RMPs) prompted the creation of this E-Book. A dedicated group of experts worked rigorously, summarizing hundreds of pages of each case while maintaining confidentiality.

Addressing the complexities surrounding patients’ expectations and understanding of medical constraints, Dr. Malik emphasized the need for clarity on issues related to ethics, conduct, and negligence. The E-Book aims to bridge the understanding gap between patients and medical practitioners, providing valuable insights into the intricacies of medical ethics.
